Fun with Photosynthesis

5/2/2017

In kindergarten we grow produce together for an eating experience based on the book Salad People, by Mollie Katzen.  Along the way we study the concepts of sprouting seeds, photosynthesis, and measuring plant growth.  This month we explored photosynthesis and the concept that plants have the unique ability to make their own food directly from the sun’s rays.  To introduce this complex concept, we use an old fashioned felt board and a corresponding journal activity.  The student scientists enjoyed thinking about green leaves as tiny ovens, and couldn’t believe plants have a sweet tooth just like us!  Check out some of their journal entries.
